Food Waste Action Week 2022

He moumou kai, he āhuarangi hurihuri

Wasting Food Feeds Climate Change

Around a third of the food produced globally is lost or wasted and it’s having a real impact on our climate. #FoodWasteActionWeek began in the UK in 2021 in support of the UN Sustainable Development goal 12.3 to halve food waste by 2030, this year it is going global.

Wasting food is something we can take action on, and this is where you can get involved during Food Waste Action Week 2022. Love Food Hate Waste Aotearoa NZ and around the globe have dedicated March 7-13 to raising awareness of the climate impacts of wasting food and sharing actions we can all take to help reduce the amount of food we waste. Oh, and look out for our competition during this week for a chance to have your own recipe featured and included in the LFHW website catalogue!

Reducing your food waste is the easiest thing we can do to have a positive impact on the climate. Eliminating this food waste would have the same effect as reducing CO2 equivalent emissions by 409,234 tonnes – that’s like planting 163,694 trees or taking 150,453 cars off the road for a year.
