Eggs
Eggs can be stored at room temperature, but they will last longer if they are stored in the fridge.
Eggs are porous, which means smells and liquid can be absorbed by the tiny pores on the shell. Storing eggs in their cartons helps prevent this.
In New Zealand eggs are safe to eat after their best before date.
To test if an egg is fresh, place it into a glass of water. If it sinks, it is fresh. If it stays submerged, but doesn’t touch the bottom, it’s older, but still ok to eat. If it floats, throw it away because it has gone off.
